Keith Harris


Keith Harris began work in the record industry in 1974. The first record company for which he worked was a small independent UK label called Transatlantic records. The label represented mainly British folk musicians but also distributed the Blue Note and Milestone Jazz labels. In 1976 he joined EMI Records where he initially worked for several in­house EMI labels in the promotions department. These labels included Rocket where he worked on the Elton John album ‘Blue Moves’, Fantasy, Ariola and EMI International. He then joined Motown which was an EMI licensed label. He worked for Motown for two years ending up as General Manager for the label. During his period at the label he worked with artists such as Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, The Commodores, Rick James, The Supremes, Thelma Houston and Stevie Wonder. He left Motown in 1978 and moved to Los Angeles to work with Stevie Wonder and became Operations Manager for Stevie’s companies. On his return to the UK in 1982 he formed his own management company and has been involved in the management of various UK based artists since. He has managed Junior Giscombe, Junior Tucker, Paul Johnson, & Omar. Keith also managed the late Lynden David Hall.

Keith still represents Stevie Wonder, and was Tour Manager for his European tour in 2014.

He is the Director of Performer Affairs for PPL ­ http://www.ppluk.com.

He is a Senior Fellow of the University of Westminster school of music film and fashion where he has Lectured since 1993.

He is a former Chairman of the MMF the managers trade body ­www.ukmmf.net.

He is the Chairman of Musictank ­ http://www.musictank.co.uk.

He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Westminster in November 2007.

He received the Music Industry Champion Award at the Artists and Managers Awards Ceremony in 2014.

He is a Trustee of the EMI Music Foundation,  The Midi Music Company, and The British Music Experience.

It is an honour for Westway LAB 2015 to host keith as our Keynote Speaker!


John Robb
The Membranes / Louder than War


John Robb grew up in Blackpool till punk rock came along and saved his life.
Naively believing that you really could do what you wanted he went on to form the loudest group ever, the Membranes- the highly influential post punk band and were a big influence on the soon to come Sonic Youth and Big Black.

He then went on to write for the rock press with Sounds and was the first person to interview Nirvana and coined the expression Britpop. His music and culture website louderthanwar.com is currently one of the biggest music key sites and he does loads of TV and radio stuff and tours with his punk band Goldblade as well as the reformed Membranes who release their first new album for 25 years in May- an album that is already being heralded as their best yet.
He also currently writes books and articles, runs a music and books festival called Louderthanwar and is a political campaigner who chairs committees in Parliament and is an in demand speaker with his spoken word show spawned by the success of his talks of TEDx on punk, zen and the universe and also for his talks of veganism and punk rock. He will be moderating the debates at Westway LAB 2015. He also tours the world.

Christophe Cassan

Christophe Cassan has been booking agent in Spain during 15 years, representing acts like Joan Baez, Yann Tiersen, Emir Kusturica, Manu Dibango, Amadou&Mariam, Birdy Nam Nam, Bombino, Dub Inc, Keny Arkana, Wax Tailor, etc.He is now project manager of BIME, a music conference and festival, which 3rd edition will take place in Bilbao between October 28 and 31, organized by Last Tour, the biggest music promoter in Spain. BIME Pro has a large focus on the Latin-American Music Industry and is the first to focus on Music, New technologies, Gaming and New Revenue. BIME Live has announced its first headliner: Imagine Dragons.

Cassan is also booker of Cruilla Barcelona, a three-days summer festival, which 8th edition already includes acts like Franz Ferdinand & Sparks, Jamie Cullum, Ms Lauryn Hill, Damian Marley, Of Monsters and Men, Capital Cities, Milky Chance, The Cat Empire, Archive, etc…


Sian Evans
Sound Diplomacy / Nouvelle Prague


Sian Evans is a Project Manager at music industry development agency Sound Diplomacy, where she became the first employee after graduating with a first class BA Music and Arts Management degree. Since 2012, Sian has co-written a Music Export Toolkit for composers for Sound and Music, produced trade missions to London, Bilbao and New York for government agency Creative Saskatchewan and worked on an internal UK Popular Music Funding Study for Arts Council England. In addition, she has worked for clients including Hootsuite, BIME, Nouvelle Prague, CIMA and The Great Escape. Sian will be presenting Nouvelle Prague at Westway LAB 2015:

Nouvelle Prague follows a small and exclusive market model event for the music industry with high‐quality focused activities, a tailor‐made showcase with renowned international participants and attendees from all over the world. This model guarantees that all showcasing bands will showcase in front of the buyers present at the festival. Now in it’s third year, the music conference and showcase festival takes place in the Staropramen Brewery in November. Nouvelle Prague won the Best New Showcase Festival Award at the Yearly Music Convention Awards 2014 in Brighton (YMCA’s).
Jeff Thompson

Jeff is co-founder of Un-Convention, chair of The Future Artists Live Creative Co-op, and is also a Director of Manchester’s False Idol Records.
Established in 2008, Un-Convention is a UK based global music network and development agency. The events and projects bring together artists and practitioners to share knowledge and expertise. Through this Jeff has helped to develop a number of new and innovative approaches to building sustainable careers and alternative models for the music industries. His current work includes a long term music project working with young people in Manchester, the development of a number of music co-operatives in Africa, and a revolutionary new UK based touring model called Off Axis.

He is fortunate enough to spend much of his time working with musicians, filmmakers, designers, illustrators, writers, directors, actors, dancers, animators and numerous other talented and innovative people.

Pete Saville
Music Supervisor, Fairsplit Publishing

Pete Saville’s music career began by launching Carbon Lodge Studios in 2004 producing audiovisual content for clients including Aaardman, Tiger Aspect & Barbican Centre.

In 2007 Pete founded www.carbonlogic.co.uk an independent upload destination curated by guest artists & labels that have included NYC’s Telepathe, Finger Lickin Records, The Glade Festival, Tony Nwachukwu (CDR) and current Psych Manchester collective GNOD (Rocket Recordings).

In 2010 Pete completed his first Music Supervision project EXCLUDED (BBC2) and has worked continuously in Music Supervision since.

Pete has recently completed Richard Branson’s disruptive VIRGIN #VOOM campaign, Roald Dahl’s ESIO TROT (BBC1 – Dame Judi Dench & Dustin Hoffman) and critically acclaimed three part World War I drama OUR WORLD WAR (BBC3/BBC Worldwide) for Bafta winning Directors Bruce Goodison & Ben Chanan.

He is currently working on Inspector George Gently Season 8 (Company Pictures).

His other credits include GLASGOW GIRLS (BBC 3 – Best Original Programme Broadcast Awards 2015), TV series LONDON IRISH (Channel 4), LAWLESS (Sky Living), 2014 BUFF Best Youth Film LEAVE TO REMAIN (OST by 2012 Mercury Prize winners Alt J), THE MILL Season 1 (Channel 4), INSPECTOR GEORGE GENTLY Seasons 4,5 & 6 (BBC1), BEAVER FALLS Seasons 1 & 2 (E4), THE LAST WEEKEND (ITV) and award winning drama MY MURDER (BBC3 – Best Single Drama, Broadcast Awards 2012).

In April 2014 Pete launched Fairsplit Music a new creative partnership with Vikram Gudi (Elephant Music) focussed on outstanding contemporary classical, electronic & industrial composers and their commercial repertoire.

Markus Linde


Music Business veteran of some 30 years, Markus Linde was involved in promotion, marketing, label management and A&R and was also head of the Alternative Department at CBS, BMG and SONY Music Germany.

He was also a Partner/Director at Freibank, renowned independent music publisher, as well as being experienced in artist management, label management for soundtrack label Koenigskinder Music and Rotschopf Records, an artist label.

He is the Founder / Owner of That’s Agent, a counselling agency specialised in the field of synch music for commercials with a client base including VW, BMW, Opel, Samsung, Saturn, Braun, Citroen, Ebay and many more.

Markus will be joining our publishing and sync panel. 

Vikram Gudi
Elephant Music

Vikram is the founder of Elephant Music, a 360 music agency specialising in placing music on TV commercials and film trailers. They have a amazing roster of over 4000+ commercial tracks hand picked for sync, and over 20 composers. He has been synchronisation manager for Imagem, working with artists like Daft Punk, Steve Reich, MIA and Director of Music for Immediate in LA. He has music supervised the Oscar nominated documentary ‘If a Tree Falls’ and is considered an global expert in the world of licensing, placement and composition. Vikram’s philosophy is that the entire industry is about personal relationships, and Elephant has strived to maintain and grow these relationships over the years. He has recently launched his 2nd company, Fairsplit Music Publishing which has already secured music placements with Unilever, Cathay Pacific, Google, IBM, Virgin, Walking Dead and Netflix within its first year.

Vik will be joining Markus and Pete on our sync panel.

Vítor Macedo

20 years’ experience as A&R, Label and Marketing Manager in the independent portuguese music industry, namely with  Movieplay working with artists like António Chainho, Paulo de Carvalho, Dulce Pontes, José Cid, JP Simões, Vítor Rua, Tabanka Djaz, Fonzie, among others.
Responsable for the representation, in Portugal, at the beginning of the ’00’s decade, of such international label catalogues as  Roadrunner Records (US/NL), Tommy Boy Music (US), Echo Label (UK) and others.
Presently, Label Manager of Altafonte Music Network – Portugal and responsible for Portuguese content.

Vítor joins us at Westway LAB 2015 to discuss the digital environment and present Altafonte, who have recently celebrated a protocol available to all AMAEI Labels and Artists.

Michał Hajduk
Adam Mickiewicz Institute

Michal Hajduk has been involved in the music business ever since 2001. He started as a an independent concerts booker/promoter, gaining experience as music curator at Centre For Contemporary Art in Warsaw, independent music venues manager, tour manager and bands manager, co-programmer for festivals and contributor for indie record labels. Since 2008 he works with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, a state cultural institution promoting Polish culture around the world. As an alternative and jazz music curator he created and developed a strategy for an alternative music sector, co-organized number of events and conferences in Poland and all over the world under the label  “Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland”.


Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland (DPWFP) is a brand, which was created by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in 2008. Its main aim is to promote Polish music abroad. We concentrate on music genres like: pop, alternative, jazz, electronic, club music, heavy metal, experimental and folk.

DPWFP is a platform showcasing young, Polish artists, who are setting their first steps abroad. Poland has become a regular at festivals like: South by Southwest (SXSW), The Great Escape Festival, Primavera Sound, Reeperbahn Festival, Tallin Music Week, Liverpool Sound City, C/O Pop, Zandari Festa and Tokyo Jazz Festival. Thanks to our showcases, thousands of foreign listeners and hundreds of representatives from the world music industry have had a chance to listen to Polish artists.DPWFP means also promoting Polish music at expos. We co-organize workshops and lectures dedicated to learning the rules of the music industry around the world, intended for music managers, promoters and record labels. The DPWFP booth represents Poland at the jazz trade show Jazzahead and the international networking platform WOMEX.The pink & blue rabbit, the unmistakable mascot of DPWFP, has been all over the world alongside Polish artists!

Westway Lab Festival is a collaborative platform, a living and organic laboratory, of experimentation and stimulus to creativity whose goal is to bring together, in the same city, acclaimed and emerging, international and national, innovative and purists artists during a period of music creation, video, urban interventions, architecture and thought played out through the development of activities such as artistic residencies, creative ateliers, showcases, concerts and talks.
