In the 6th edition of Westway LAB, musical notes came to life in Guimarães in the form of 29 concerts, 14 conferences, 2 keynotes, 2 workshops, 3 networking sessions, 20 European export offices, 2 Talks and 4 artist residencies. The Vila Flor Cultural Center (CCVF) was the epicenter of an energy that spread to the city throughout the four days of this music event, affirming Westway LAB as an international territory of creation and export, knowledge, sharing, networking and enjoyment in the musical universe, which extends and widens its bridges, which this year have crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a more consolidated way, with Canada as a country in the spotlight.
Westway LAB is about to launch a new episode of this big and surprising adventure, bringing together once again the public, artists and professionals from the music industry, all in Guimarães, a city in continuous transformation motivated by creation and thought.
Every year in Spring, Guimarães becomes a music city. Portugal’s first showcase festival and pro music conference offers a very groundbreaking experience with Artist Residencies, Conferences, Talks, Showcases, Concerts and Canada as guest country. From 10th to 13th of April, Westway LAB connects Portugal to Europe and the world with a strong focus on the international music industry. 🚂🌍🎸🎹
Westway LAB, Portugal’s first showcase festival and professional music conference, will take place for the sixth consecutive year from 10th to 13th of April in Guimarães.
Founded in 2014 with a clear mission: to operate a cultural, social and economic transformation through music, crossing borders enabling the construction of sustainable internationalization of artists and professionals from Portugal. During the 4 day event, Guimarães becomes a music city, combining in an innovative way the realization of an event based with three dimensions: Process (artist residencies), Thought (PRO Conferences) and Product (showcases and headline concerts).
According to Rui Torrinha, artistic director of the festival, “continuing to think about the cosmos from this unique place has made of Westway LAB a powerful world of possibilities on a human scale, in which the time and space generated have allowed us to recover the original meaning of the word … quality. Not everything here can be said, so discover it and let yourself be discovered but do not miss out, because the spirit is of inclusion.”

🇪🇺 INES is a European cooperation project initiated by eight international showcase festivals – including #WestwayLAB – and gigmit, the European digital platform for artist booking. Currently, INES has expanded to thirteen showcase festivals.
After the biggest ever edition (the 5th), with 28 Concerts, City Showcases, Artist Residencies, PRO Conferences and Talks, Westway LAB is preparing to once again bring together the public, artists and professionals from the music industry, all in Guimarães.
The 6th edition of #WestwayLAB takes place from April 10 to 13 and the candidacies to be part of the festival closed on December 31. And we’ve beaten by large numbers both applications of the previous edition. Thank you for the the biggest response ever!
It is in this path that Westway LAB will continue to be an international territory of creation, networking and enjoyment in the universe of music.
Here’s a video that shows a bit how the Artist Residencies of the last edition were… 🎸🎹🎶🎥
